Betty Simmons, age 68, of Newhope, died Wednesday, January 8, 2014. She was born on October 30, 1945, at Umpire, the daughter of Hester Matthew Davis and Rosa Neoma Chambers Davis. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Benny Cole; her second husband, Dickie Simmons; and her sister, Helen Ravan. She was a retired Certified Nursing Assistant. She is survived by two daughters, Vickie Elam of Umpire and Cristy Parsons of Glenwood; five grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; one brother, Tony "Peno" Davis of Langley; three sisters, Clara Risner of Newhope, Pam Shook of Athens and Phyllis Howard of Umpire; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 11, 2014, in the Athens Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Raymond Dees officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Gust registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
