Captain Gary O. Miller, Sr., age 70, of Hot Springs, passed from this world on Saturday, May 4, 2019.
He was born on April 8, 1949, in Hot Springs, the son of Chester Miller and Irene Moore Miller. On December 27, 1968, he married Lannettee “June” Hamilton. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lymon Miller; and one sister, Debbie Miller.
After answering his country’s call in the United States Army, Gary returned to the states, after serving with distinction. Gary found his calling with the Hot Springs Police Department. In a career that spanned nearly four decades, he served with excellence in every division of the department. Upon retiring from the H.S.P.D., Gary continued his public service with the Criminal Justice Institute, assisting countless law enforcement officers across the state and nation.
Gary was a member of the American Legion, the Hot Springs Fraternal Order of Police, the Arkansas Municipal Police Association and the Arkansas Chief of Police Association.
He is survived by his wife, Lannettee “June” Miller of Hot Springs; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Gary Miller, Jr. of Hot Springs and Clayton and Katina Miller of Mountain Pine; one daughter and son-in-law, Windy and Dewayne Shaw of Hot Springs; nine grandchildren, Brett Meeks, Brittnee Brown, Garron Miller, Jessie Miller, Savannah Miller, Kaitlyn Miller, Carley Shaw, Kinley Shaw and Garrett Miller; six great-grandchildren, Kinsley, Liam, Kole, Kadence, Embree and Colt; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Jenean and Don Burkes and Janice Miller, all of Hot Springs; one sister-in-law, Eva Jean Miller of Oden; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, May 9, 2019, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Hot Springs with Bro. Brady Smoke and Bro. James Wehunt officiating.
Interment will be in the Hickory Grove Cemetery, Bismarck.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Wednesday evening.
Pallbearers will be the Hot Springs Police Department Honor Guard.
