Carlton Charlie Fryar

Carlton Charlie Fryar, age 87 of HogJaw, near Oden, died Saturday, October 29, 2011. He was born November 5, 1923 at Oden, the son of William Bart Fryar and Alice Rodgers Fryar. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Darren Lee Fryar; four brothers, Grady Fryar, John Fryar, Porter Fryar and Eston Fryar; and one sister, Mildred Ellison. Mr. Fryar was a member of the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church which he helped build. He was a cattle farmer and raised chickens for over 50 years. He enjoyed fishing, squirrel hunting, flying kites and whittling. If he did not have what he needed, he would invent a solution and create the necessary parts to complete a project. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Fryar of HogJaw; three sons and daughters-in-law, Harry and Debbie Fryar, Charlie and Sandy Fryar and Jimmy and Tammy Fryar, all of Oden; two daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Glen Hatton of Sims and Connie and Johnny Smith of Story; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Dale and Sherrie Hatton of Mt. Ida, Mark Hatton of Sims, Roger and Samantha Smith of Story, James and Christina Smith of Springhill, Russell and Heather Fryar of Atoka, Tennessee, Jeffrey and Melissa Gage of Arvada, Colorado and Penny and Greg Bader of Fort Smith; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, JoAnn Tims of Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, October 31, 2011, in the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Kyle Cowart and Bro. David Roark officiating. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Mt. Olive Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Russell Fryar, Dale Hatton, Mark Hatton, Roger Smith, James Smith and Alec Hatton. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeffrey Gage, Tom Ellison, Cotton Ellison, Otis Mullenix, Clois Ledbetter and Jerry Briggs. Memorials may be made to the Mt. Olive Cemetery, c/o Bernadine Fryar, P.O.
