Charlene Cowart Johnson

Charlene Cowart Johnson, age 91, of Kirby, died Saturday, March 24, 2012. She was born on August 10, 1920 at Kirby, the daughter of Joseph Edmond "Ed" Cowart and Arrie Orrick Cowart. On June 14, 1941, she was married to Elmer Johnson who preceded her in death on August 13, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Lorene Cockrell; and six brothers, Doyle Cowart, Thurston Cowart, Delton Cowart, Hurcil Cowart, Milton Cowart and Lindon Cowart. She was a member of the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, an avid gardener and loved to fish. She is survived by her nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 PM, Monday, March 26, 2012 in the Bear Creek Cemetery with Bro. Bobby Golden officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
