Charles Raymond Harding

September 25, 1925 — September 7, 2012

Charles Raymond Harding, who would have been 87 years old this month, passed from this earthly world into one where there is no pain, only happiness. He left us on Friday, September 7, 2012. He was born on September 25, 1925 in the town of Centerpoint, Arkansas, the son of John Loy Harding and Moran Hale Harding. On May 1, 1946, he was married to Billie Cavender. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Johnny Ray Harding and Bill Harding; and one sister, Bernice Dingler. A disabled WWII veteran, he worked for the U.S. Postal service and served as a rural mail carrier for 32 years, retiring in 1989. He was an avid hunter and served as an elder and song leader at the Glenwood Church of Christ for many years. Survivors include his wife, Billie Harding of Glenwood; four children and their spouses, John and Lu Harding of Mt. Eagle, Arkansas, Holly and John Wellman of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, Ken and Glenda Harding of Glenwood and Melanie and Bobby Campbell of Mesquite, Texas; nine grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 9, 2012, in the Glenwood Church of Christ with Roger Cox, Glen Harris, Cavender Campbell and E. J. Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be in the Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Doyce Golden, Robert Mecum, Doyle Shields, Charles Golden, Mark Foshee and Paul Shelton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Glenwood Senior Center, P.O. Box 465, Glenwood, Arkansas, 71943 or to Arkansas Hospice, 628 Malvern Avenue, Hot Springs, Arkansas, 71901. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
