Don Pitts

June 7, 1946 — May 7, 2020

Don Pitts, age 73, of Sherwood, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2020.

He was born on June 7, 1946, in Searcy, the son of Glenn Dward Pitts and Lois Hester Williams Pitts. On September 21, 1980, he was married to Tana Woodall. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his infant sister, Rachael Pitts.

Don grew up in Des Arc on his family farm where he worked every day with his Dad after school. Upon graduation from Des Arc High School he joined the United States Air Force and following his time in the military he returned home and worked in customer service with Delta Airlines for over 26 years until he took an early retirement. He then started his own trucking business, Don L. Hauling Service. A true country boy at heart, Don always loved spending time outdoors and being on the lake. He had his private pilot license and enjoyed flying small planes when he was younger. He also enjoyed playing all types of games, was a member of a bowling league, and was famously known for being competitive. He had a true passion for music, was a talented entertainer often being the guitarist and lead singer for numerous bands and was referred to by many as the best frontman in Central Arkansas.

Don was kindhearted and compassionate, always thinking of others and was loyal to everyone in his life. He had a special way of making folks laugh and enjoyed playing pranks on his friends and family. He was a wonderful and faithful husband, father, and grandfather, who loved his family with all his heart. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Don is survived by his loving wife, Tana Pitts of Sherwood; his daughter and son-in-law, Courtney and Travis Mannix of Newport News, Virginia; his two precious granddaughters, Zoey Mannix and Sofia Mannix; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dennis and Pam Pitts of Olive Branch, Mississippi and Terry and Mary Pitts of Shelbyville, Tennessee; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members; and a host of wonderful friends.
