Donald Carl Borland

Donald Carl Borland, age 91, of Norman, formerly of Eudora, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at his home at the Montgomery County Assisted Living. He was born on March 30, 1920 at Malvern, the son of John Thomas Borland and Bettie Williams Borland. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Mattye Willie Hutson Borland; his two children, Hazel Louise Borland Lokey and William Earl Borland; his brother, Earl Borland; and four sisters, Hester Carpenter, Hazel Ready, Louise Borland and Chloe Kent. He was a graduate of Malvern High School. A United States Army veteran of World War II, he was the recipient of 5 Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart. He was a Baptist in his faith and enjoyed reading and studying his Bible. He was a member of the Eudora First Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and deacon. He owned and operated his own garage and enjoyed making candlesticks. He is survived by his granddaughter, Sara Lokey Cureton; two great-grandsons, Drew and M J Cureton, all of Norman; and his sister, Betty John Wheat of Benton. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 27, 2011 in the Norman First Baptist Church. Interment was in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Eudora, Arkansas under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Montgomery County Assisted Living, PO Box 1208, Mount Ida, Arkansas 71957 or CADC Senior Adult Center, Mount Ida, Meals on Wheels Program, PO Box 774, Mount Ida, Arkansas 71957.
