Doris Wood

Doris Wood, age 83, of Norman, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, December 7, 2014. She was born on September 18, 1931, in Las Cruces, New Mexico, to Frank Walton Cate and Mary Adeline Kemp Cate. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John T. Swisher and her late husband, Richard Freeman Wood; her parents; three brothers, Donald Cate, Marcus Cate and Norman Cate; and three sisters, Lola Long, Velma Powell and Joy Truelove. She was a loving mother and grandmother, who enjoyed playing board and card games, reading, puzzles, quilting, playing the piano and going to Sunday school at Norman First Baptist Church. She is survived by her eight children and their spouses, John and Nancy Swisher of Royal, Blanche and Rex Kingery of Hot Springs, Kathy and Tony Phillips of Royal, Janet Watkins of Hot Springs, Tommy and Song Swisher of Royal, Clayton and Sally Sheets of Danville, Mary and Johnny Yarbrough of Amity and Julia and Dale Emory of Norman; twenty-three grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; two sisters and their spouses, Claudia and Paul Siddell of Hot Springs and Anita and Ernie Long of Mountain Pine; one brother-in-law and three sisters-in-law, Alton and Willie Wood of Georgia, Bessie Patterson of Mountain Pine and Mary Curtis of Hot Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 11, 2014, in the Norman First Baptist Church with Bro. Robbie Loudermilk officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Peak Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Joey Kingery, William Watkins, Johnny Yarbrough, Jr., Dakota Yarbrough, Peyton Emory, Gary Truelove, Terry Diggs and Andy Diggs. Honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Standridge and the members of the First Baptist Church of Norman. A special thanks is extended to the Deacons of the First Baptist Church of Norman for taking care of the widows; and to the nurses and staff of St. Vincent's Hospital Hot Springs.
