Doyle Burgess

Doyle Burgess, age 85, of Glenwood, passed away on Thursday, April 5, 2018. He was born on February 23, 1933, in Langley, the son of Harvey Eugene Burgess and Maudy Pearl Coffman Burgess. On January 20, 1956, he was married to Marlene Hudgins. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clarence Burgess, Dean Burgess and James Burgess; and one sister, Maudy Myers. He was a member of the Mount Calvary Church in Glenwood, a U.S. Army Veteran having served in the Korean War, and a master carpenter. He retired from Caddo Hills Public Schools, where he was a bus driver and Maintenance Supervisor. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching rodeos on TV, and in his younger years participated in rodeos. Doyles greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he adored. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend and will be deeply missed by all. He is survived by his loving wife, Marlene Burgess of Glenwood; one son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Sue Burgess of Bonnerdale; two daughters and one son-in-law, Kathy Linville and Kim and Bryan McCormick, all of Glenwood; six grandchildren and their spouses, Steve and Kelli Bates, Joe Bates, Josh Bates, Brandon and Traci Bean, Shena Thew and Eli Burgess; eight great-grandchildren, Mariah and Halee Bates, Braelynne and Baylor Bates, Jordan and Lexi Bates, Addison Thew and Brinlee Bean; one sister, Elsie White of Glenwood; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of wonderful friends. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 8, 2018, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood with Bro. Ralph Hamilton officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will be in the County Line Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy Bates, Todd Linville, Shaun Bean, Roger Carter, Roger Hudgins and Rodney Hudgins. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Trina Bates, Jordan Bates, Lexi Bates, Ellen Mooreland and Shirley Hudgins. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
