Earl Risner

Earl Risner, age 83, of Langley, died Saturday, June 15, 2013. He was born on January 8, 1930 at Octavia, Oklahoma, the son of Arlin Risner and Gussie Hargis Risner. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Adams Risner; his parents; and five siblings, Juanita Simmons, Opal Risner, Omer "Poncho" Risner, Wanda Langley and Jessie Snell. Earl was a lumber man and considered one of the best sawyers in Arkansas. He could scale a log better than anyone. He was a devoted member of the Langley United Methodist Church for over 40 years. Family and friends considered Earl to be a modest, gentle and generous man who saw the good in everyone. He was a godly man whose faith never wavered. Earl was a devoted father, caring husband and, until her death, the sole caregiver to his invalid wife, Mary. He is survived by seven children and their spouses, Gary and Charlotte Risner of Hot Springs Village, Larry and Lynne Risner of Hot Springs; Helene and Nathan Grant of Batesville, Marty and Cindy Risner of East End, Earlene and Jeff Snider of Kirby, Kay and Rodney Bowen of Mena and April and James Wilder of Amity; four step-children; thirteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his brother, Roy Risner of Newhope; his sister, Brenda Oleta "Tupie" Looney of Magnolia; and a host of nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, June 18, 2013, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood, with Rev. Gary Harrison and Rev. Will Bradford officiating. Visitation will be Monday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will be in the Langley Hall Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be grandsons. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Langley United Methodist Church Building Fund, PO Box 41, Langley, Arkansas 71952. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
