Elessie Callaway Covey

Elessie Callaway Covey, age 69, of Hot Springs, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019. She was born on August 8, 1949 in Fort Riley, Kansas, the daughter of Thomas Woodrow Callaway and Genevieve Jose` Callaway. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Rebecca Genevieve Callaway; one brother, Robert "Bobby" Callaway; and one brother-in-law, Gary Bean. A 1967 graduate of Amity High School, Elessie attended Henderson State College and then moved to Kansas where she worked as an office administrator for doctors and nursing homes. After relocating to Amity in the early 1990s, she was a caregiver for Mrs. Lola Williams. Elessie enjoyed crocheting, fishing, cooking and ringing bells in the church bell choir while in Kansas. She was a member of the Amity First Baptist Church. Elessie was the most loving mother, grandmother, sister and aunt anyone could ask for. She was so giving and always put everyone else before herself. Her most important role was being Nana to her to granddaughters. She will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Covey of Hot Springs; two granddaughters, Tehlyr Covey and Kehlyn Covey, both of Hot Springs; her sister, Cynthia Bean of Amity; her brother, Richard Callaway of Colorado; and her nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, January 7, 2019, in the Amity First Baptist Church with Bro. John McAnally officiating. Visitation will be held Monday, 1:00 PM until service time, at the church. Interment will be in Jones Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Gary Bean, Tommy Bean, Alton Bean, Thomas Fagan, Randall Smith and Danny Garner. Honorary pallbearer will be Ray Lambert. Memorials may be made to Jones Cemetery, c/o of Dora Lee Bean, 316 North Hill Street, Amity, Arkansas, 71921. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
