Erma Gean Helvey

June 22, 1934 — January 18, 2012

Erma Gean Helvey, age 77, of Newhope, died Wednesday, January 18, 2012. She was born on June 22, 1934, at Kirby, the daughter of Charlie Ashley and Addie Mae Sanders Ashley. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, R. T. Simmons; her second husband, Floyd Helvey; and two brothers, Clifford Ashley and Dewey Ashley. She was a member of the Mount Joy Free Will Baptist Church in Daisy and a graduate of Kirby High School. She enjoyed mowing, traveling and dearly loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Cammie Simmons of Amity and Tim and LeaAnna Simmons of Daisy; four grandchildren and their spouses, Tommy and Vanessa Simmons, Tara Simmons, Lucas Simmons and Sonya Simmons; three great-grandchildren, Tyler Simmons, Kodi Simmons and Raelyn Simmons; one sister, Belva Alford of Kirby; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday, January 23, 2012, at the Mount Joy Free Will Baptist Church in Daisy with Bro. Raymond Dees officiating. Visitation will be held Sunday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Palestine Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Dennis Jester, Kenneth Young, Jim Neal, Sheridan Neal, Jonathan Neal and Jimmy Sweeden. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
