Frazier Cowart, age 85, of Lodi passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2014. He was born on November 22, 1928, at Lodi, the son of James Levi Cowart and Allie Mae Welch Cowart. On December 29, 1951, he was married to Velma Turner. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Renee Cowart; his parents; and two brothers, Leon Cowart and Burl Cowart. Frazier was a member and deacon of the Pilgrim Rest Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. He served on the Lodi Fire Department Board and worked the election polls at Lodi for many years. He raised cattle, chickens and pigs and received the Pike County Farm Family of the Year Award. He was an avid gardener, outdoorsman, hunter and sports fan who loved his family and adored his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Velma Cowart of Lodi; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and Dr. Joe (Jody) Chaney of Murfreesboro, Teresa Simmons of Dierks and Penny and Mike Putz of Lodi; one son, Jamie Cowart of Murfreesboro; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Megan and Robert Bonner, Kyra May, Ashley Mays, D.J. and Nicole Simmons, Bret and Cindy Reid, Chance and Jamie Reid, Jacynda Putz, Deric Putz and Jansen Cowart; ten great-grandchildren, Morgan, Alex, Madison, Konner, Bristol, Ty, Braylee, Tanner, Hayden and Bentley; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Clidus and Fay Cowart, Ed and Frances Cowart and Viola Cowart, all of Lodi; four sisters, Mildred Raybon of Pearcy, Linnie Mae Wacaster and Margie Dean, both of Hot Springs and Syble Thomas of Lodi; and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, June 12, 2014, in the Pilgrim Rest Landmark Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Kyle Cowart, Bro. Bobby Golden and Bro. Scott Feemster officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Lodi Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Bret Reid, Chance Reid, D.J. Simmons, Rodney Hudgins, Jansen Cowart, Deric Putz, Robert Bonner and Brandon Mays. Honorary Pallbearers will be Marvin Hill, Marty Reynolds, Minor Chaney, J.C. O'Neal, David Simmons, Dwayne Reid, Joe Floyd Wright, Tommy Davis, Jimmy Buck and the staff of Buck's Pharmacy, Toni Davis and the staff of Baptist Home Health and Hospice, the nurses and staff of Dr. Greg Engstrom, Dr. David McElreath, Dr. Hannan McKohl, Dr. Mark Floyd and Dr. Matthew Hulsey.
