Gene Hobson

Gene Hobson, age 77, of Mena, passed from this life on Sunday, July 29, 2012, with his family by his side. He was born on September 19, 1934, at Umpire, the son of Clyde Hobson and Ola Jester Hobson. Gene worked in the lumber industry for sixty years and most recently was employed with Rich Mountain Lumber. He was an avid deer hunter and fisherman and Arkansas Razorback fan. He loved his family and was a mentor to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bennie Oliver Hobson of Mena; his mother, Lois Hobson of Springdale; one brother, Dannie Hobson of Fayetteville; four children and their spouses, Janice and Randall Whorton of Mena, Carol and Audie Jones of Greenwood, Mike and Melissa Hobson of Mena and Mark and Tyra Hobson of Mena; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; four nieces and four nephews; and a host of friends. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, August 2, 2012, in the County Line Cemetery, near Nashville with Bro. Bobby Golden and Bro. Joe Cornelison officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Caleb Bazar, Daniel Bazar, Britt Hobson, Hunter Hobson, Kris Hobson, Wade Hobson and Race Hobson. Honorary pallbearers will be Shane Frost, Jim Martin, Kyle Robertson and Toni Dodson.
