George "Fred" Morris

December 18, 1936 — January 13, 2018

George "Fred" Morris, age 81, of Glenwood, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2018. He was born on December 18, 1936, in Salina, Kansas, the son of Louis Henry Morris and Esther LaGrande Morris. On November 20, 1999, he was married to Martha Jane Myers. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marion Morris; his parents; one brother, Larry Ray Morris; and one sister, Jean Libby. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Glenwood First Baptist Church. For several years he worked as a chemical engineer in Trona, California, but it was in his later years that he would work his most valued job as the janitor for Glenwood First Baptist Church. For over 14 years Fred proudly cleaned and took great care of his beloved church until he was not physically able to, which was just in the past year. He was well known for his ability to harass pretty much everyone, which always gave him great joy. Above all, Fred truly loved each and every member of his family and he cherished any opportunity he had to spend time with them. He was a wonderful family man, and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife, Jane Morris of Glenwood; eleven children and their spouses; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Vicky Morris of Kansas; several nieces, nephews and extended family members; and a host of wonderful friends. The family will hold a Celebration of Freds life at 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 20, 2018, in the Glenwood First Baptist Church with Bro. Erby Burgess officiating. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy Honors Team. Visitation will be held Saturday, 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM, at the church. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Honorary pallbearers will be Derwood Mayo, Everett Smith, Joe Wright, Larry Mitchell, Terry Whitley, Woody Massey and Jerry Lewis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Glenwood First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 373, Glenwood, Arkansas, 71943. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
