Jean (Hill) Grant, age 68, of Laplace, Louisiana, died Monday, April 11, 2011. She was born on August 8, 1942, at St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Merl Bill Phillips and Martha Lavada Butts Phillips. She was preceded in death by her father. In 1969, she relocated to the Norman area from Cloverdale, California, where she raised her children. In 1983, she moved to College Station, Texas and then in 1997 she relocated to Laplace, Louisiana, where she resided until the time of her death. She was Methodist in her faith and a licensed cosmetologist. She enjoyed being on the lake, cooking and cherished her animals. Jean truly lived her life for her family and was always helping others. She is survived by her husband, Mark Grant of Laplace, Louisiana; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Travis Hill of Murfreesboro and Darren and Tammy Hill of Hot Springs; one daughter and son-in-law, Regena and Dan Strable of St. Charles, Iowa; ten grandchildren and their spouses, Tori and Jason Caldwell, Nathan and Cyndal Hill, Ashley Hill, Nicole and Josh Sutton, Nicole and Kenny Williamson, Missy Strable, Dannie Strable, Cory Strable, Tyler Hill and Aaron Hill; nine great-grandchildren; her mother, Lavada Bruning of San Diego, California; her step-mother, Mary Phillips of Mount Ida; two brothers, Perry Phillips of Alexandria, Louisiana and Marvin Phillips of St. Petersburg, Florida; two sisters, Lavon Young of Mount Ida and Teresa Pooley of San Diego, California; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 16, 2011, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Bro. Ralph Hamilton officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will be in the Black Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nathan Hill, Dannie Strable, Cory Strable, Tyler Hill, Joe Hamilton and Paul Hamilton. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
