John Richard Lucas

March 5, 1937 — August 15, 2012

John Richard Lucas of Glenwood was born March 5, 1937, in Burney, Indiana. He died on August 15, 2012, at the Plaza at Twin Rivers in Arkadelphia after a very colorful life and extended illness. John was a retired truck driver, a veteran of the United States Air Force Strategic Air Command Program and a walking encyclopedia of people, facts and numbers. He never met a needy per- son or an animal he didn't want to rescue. John was preceded in death by his parents, John O. Lucas of Richmond, Indiana and Lois Raines of Arkadelphia, and a daughter, Rebecca Lucas. He is survived by two daughters, Dr. Shauna Lucas and her husband, John Prince, of Hot Springs and Janie Rollins of Arlington, Texas; two sisters, Joan Andrews, and her husband, Gene, of Rogers and Jane Lucas of Arkadelphia; one brother, Jim Lucas, and his wife, Jean, of Hot Springs; grandchildren and their spouses, Alan (Melody) Witherspoon of Arkadelphia and Erica Bell of Arlington, TX; nieces, Jana (Larry) Gartman of Rogers and Tammy Davis of Bolivar, New York; nephews, Greg (Debra) Lucas of Huntsville, Alabama and Todd Lucas of Arkadelphia; and a host of great grandchildren and friends. Special people in his life include his mother-in-law, Winnie Parker of Glenwood; caregivers, Suzanne Crawford, John Murdock and Bill Jackson; massage therapist, Tom Tutt; staff members of Twin Rivers Rehab and the Plaza at Twin Rivers; and his faithful dog companion, Stormy, of Twin Rivers Rehab. John's request was that there be no public service and that his cremated remains be scattered in the Caddo River in Glenwood. Memorials may be made to Group Living, Inc., P.O. Box 159, Arkadelphia, AR or the Clark County Humane Society, 627 Walnut, Arkadelphia, AR 71923. Cremation arrangements were under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.
