Johnnie Watson

June 2, 1932 — July 10, 2018

Our mom, Johnnie Watson, 86, of Glenwood, passed into the arms of her Savior Jesus Christ on July 10, 2018 and was met in heaven by our dad, Lloyd, the love of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Gertrude Thornton, brothers E.J. Thornton, Billy Ray Thornton, Donald Thornton, Jack Thornton and sisters Sharon Rowland and Regina Thornton. Mom and Dad were married on December 31, 1952 and had been married for 62 years before Dad went to heaven in 2013. Mom was born June 2, 1932 and is survived by her children, Barbara Latta and husband, Ken, of Barnesville, Georgia; Mike Watson and wife, Betty of Gulf Breeze, Florida; Tim Watson of Glenwood; grandchildren Kenny Latta and wife, Lisa, of Seminole, Florida; Jonathan Latta, missionary to Hong Kong; Scott Watson of Gulf Breeze, Florida; and Jessica Watson of Gulf Breeze, Florida; great-granddaughter, Keira Latta; her sister, Carolyn Walker of Spring, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her family and church were foremost in her life and her love of sewing, cooking, and gardening were her favorite ways to spend time and the fruits of her labors were enjoyed by all who knew her. She had completed several quilts before illness prevented her ability to sew and she had also tried her hand at painting projects. Mom spent many years decorating cakes for weddings, birthdays and anniversaries. She had been a member of First Baptist Church of Glenwood all her adult life where she served as a Sunday School teacher and nursery worker years ago and participated in a womens Bible class in her later years. Mom loved helping with Feeding Gods Sheep, a church project that provided meals for families of hospital patients. Mom worked at Wrights Food Center for over 35 years and was known and loved by all the store customers. She retired in 2006 and people she met in town would remember her as someone who helped them when they shopped at the grocery store. In 1992, the City of Glenwood bestowed upon her the honor of Employee of the Year. She was a loving wife and devoted mother and worked tirelessly to make her house a home and care for her family. We love you, Mom. We will miss you, but we know we will see you again. Barbara, Mike and Tim And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away (Revelation 21:4).
