Joyce Ann Thornton Horn

July 17, 1948 — March 19, 2018

Joyce Ann Thornton Horn, age 69, of Newhope, passed away on Monday, March 19, 2018. She was born on July 17, 1948, in Nashville, the daughter of Delbert Thornton and Effie Golden Thornton. On September 21, 1968, she was married to Doyle Davis Horn. She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Loraine Thornton, Ida Waggoner, Floy Conatser and Bobbie Smallwood; and three brothers, Woodrow Thornton, Boyd Thornton and Charles Ray Thornton. She attended the Lodi Freewill Baptist Church, and was a homemaker. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens, was an avid animal lover, and she especially loved taking care of her cats and chickens. Joyce was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, and will be deeply missed by all. She is survived by her loving husband, Doyle "Boots" Horn of Newhope; her children, Kevin and Gina Thornton of Langley, Tana Gwaltney of Huntsville, Alabama, Brooks and Lynn Horn of Bella Vista and Lorie Horn of Henderson, Nevada; six grandchildren and their spouses, Sheena and James Estep, Brittany and Chris Partee, Riley Gwaltney, Thomas Horn, Anna Claire Horn and Emma Horn; four great-grandchildren, James, Jalyn, Olivia and Keeli; one brother and sister-in-law, J. B. and Janie Thornton of Indiana; one sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Al Slagel of Huntington, Indiana; her beloved cat, Terminator; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, March 22, 2018, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood with Bro. Ron Parker officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Martin Koehn, Dr. Daniel Cartaya and the all of the nurses and staff of Arkansas Hospice, 5th Floor, CHI St. Vincent in Hot Springs.
