Obituary

Junior Fay Sturgill, age 87, of Hot Springs, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019. He was born on January 23, 1932, at Meyer Creek, the son of Fay and Rosa Norman Sturgill.

Junior is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Wanda Sturgill and Margaret Webb; brother, Warren Sturgill; son-in-law, David Simcox; and three special nephews, Darrell Neill, Ricky Brietschopf, and Bradford “Scotty” Boykin.

On June 10, 1955, Junior married the love of his life, Mary Lou, at the home of Bennie Sue and Glenn Rowe in Houston, Texas. He attended Hot Springs Primitive Baptist Church and was Christian in his faith. He was a farmer with a passion for working with his Charolais cattle and in his younger years, Shetland ponies. Junior was the owner of Junior’s Garage for many years, he was known as the Volkswagen mechanic of Hot Springs. After an unfortunate accident in 1976, he became an entrepreneur, focusing on real estate. Junior loved to pitch horseshoes, play golf, shoot pool, play cards, and travel. Junior was devoted to his family and loved each one dearly. He was a playful and fun-loving fellow, and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Junior is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Lou McKinzie Sturgill of Hot Springs; his three daughters, Debbie Simcox, Kim Gray and Victor Powell, all of Hot Springs, and Pam Russell of Pensacola, Florida; his son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Judi Sturgill of Bentonville; eight grandchildren, Jason and Casey Simcox, Nathan Simcox and Kyra Smith, Brent Russell, Kasey Coleman, Whitney Russell, Drew and Pache Gray, Heather and Michael Crain, and Logan Sturgill; twelve great-grandchildren; one sister, Martha and Buddy Boykin of Meridian, Mississippi; one brother, Joe Sturgill and Alan Clark of Hot Springs; his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Sturgill of Conroe, Texas; and his brother-in-law, Mills Webb of Glenwood; many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of wonderful friends.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Kenia Paz who took such loving care of Junior and the rest of the family during his final days.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 13, 2019 in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Hot Springs, with Pastor Danny Loy officiating.

Visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 AM, one hour prior to service time.
