Lorene Skates, age 85, of Amity, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2017. She was born on July 29, 1932 at Lodi, the daughter of Pat Whisenhunt and Opal Hanson Whisenhunt. On March 25, 1950, she was married to Fay Skates who preceded her in death on September 19, 1988. She was also preceded in death by parents, two brothers and two sisters. She retired from the Levi Strauss plant in Arkadelphia and began cooking at local restaurants. She enjoyed playing the board game "Aggravation" and spending time crocheting. She was a member of the Amity First Baptist Church. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Joe Chambers of Nashville, and Debbie and William Woodward of Amity; three grandchildren and their spouses, Missy and Charlie Holden, Christi Beth, and Dusty and Lacey Skates; three great-great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Golden, Lynzie Callaway, and Zakery Cox; and one great-great-granddaughter, Baylee Callaway. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 19, 2017, in the Amity First Baptist Church with Bro. John McAnally and Bro. Melvin Markham officiating. Visitation will be Friday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Wesleyan Cemetery at Point Cedar under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Dusty Skates, Zakery Cox, Billy Whisenhunt, Kelly Doster, Larry Whisenhunt and Gary Buck. Honorary pallbearers will be Gerald Grant, Melvin Markham, Dr. Matthew Hulsey, Dr. Timothy Webb, Paul Doster, Kenny Lyons, Larry Sherman and Jeffrey Golden. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
