Michael “Mike” Blades, Sr., age 77, of Pearcy, passed away in his sleep, Thursday, August 8, 2019.
He was born on July 31, 1942, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Leslie E. Blades and Edith A. Meeks Blades. On August 19, 1966, he married Mary Lee Reid. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mike served his country proudly and honorably for eight years in the United States Navy. He was a member of Piney Grove Methodist Church and was a Scout Leader from 1978 to present. He was a Den Leader of Webelos, a Committee Chairman, an Assistant Scout Master and Scout Master. He was also a Boy Scout Wood Badge Instructor, a Silver Beaver, a 1985 Boy Scout National Jamboree Assistant Scout Master and a 1989 Boy Scout National Jamboree Scout Master. He was a District Award Merit Recipient and Cub Master and received an Arrow of Light Scout training award. Mike made sure both of his sons obtained their individual Eagle Scout Awards.
He also enjoyed hill climbing and drag racing his 1968 customized Jeep at Little Sahara State Park in Oklahoma. In his lifetime, Mike restored a 1941 Ford Coupe and a 1951 Ford four door, which will be in the processional to the cemetery. He owned Blades Air Conditioning from 1973 until he retired in 2017.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Lee Blades of Pearcy; two sons, Michael Blades, Jr. and his wife, Kristi, of Hot Springs and Robert Blades and his girlfriend, Ashley, of Mountain Home; three grandchildren, Kaylin N. Edge of Little Rock, Michael W. Blades, III and Aydan A. Blades, both of Hot Springs; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Hurley and Maxine Sigler; his brother-in-law, Jerry (Barbie) Reid of Wichita Falls, Texas; his sister-in-law, Linda Sigler of Oppelo, Arkansas; also calling him grandpa, Aiden and Bo; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of wonderful friends.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, August 13, 2019, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Hot Springs with Pastor Scott Gallimore officiating.
Interment will be in Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday, 1:00 PM until service time.
Pallbearers will be Troop 65.
The family would like to encourage people who attend the funeral service to dress casually.
