Norman V. Sorrell, age 94, of Hot Springs, died Tuesday, January 7, 2020.
He was born on November 17, 1925, in the Oma Community, the son of James Nelson Sorrell and Minnie Lou Carpenter Sorrell. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and six sisters.
Norman was a Christian in faith. He was a United States Marine Corps World War II veteran. He entered the Navy in 1943, where he saw action in the South Pacific Campaigns of Guadalcanal, Peleliu, Okinawa. He served in the 1st Marine Division to China and came home in 1946. In 1948, he was called back and sent to Korea for six months. He mustered out at Richmond, California as a Lance Corporal.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald Edward (Christine) Sorrell of Roseville, California and Rick Vernon (Vicki) Sorrell of Oakley, California; four grandchildren, Natalie Sorrell, Alan Sorrell, Victor Sorrell and Gary Sorrell; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Lois Sorrell Cozart of Hot Springs; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, January 16, 2020, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Hot Springs with Bro. Ronald Sorrell officiating.
Interment will be in Grant’s Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Wednesday evening.
Pallbearers will be Alan Sorrell, Gary Sorrell, Bruce Cozart, Rickey Sorrell, Ronnie Sorrell and Cody Cozart.
Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Bright, Bob Caver, the staff of Hospice Homecare, Alan Love, Dr. Jeffery Bordelon and Merlie Cope and her employed caregivers.
