Susan Scarborough Burton was born on December 1, 1960 and went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 1, 2019. Susan is preceded in death by her mother, Bea Scarborough; her sister-in-law, Boni Catherine Burton; her mother-in-law, Laverne Bolding Burton; and her father-in-law, Ben Franklin Burton. Susan is survived by her husband, Brooks Burton of Hot Springs; her daughter and son-in-law, Boni and Travis Williamson of Tontitown, AR; her son and daughter-in-law, Jon and Nicole Burton of Fort Smith; four grandchildren, Emma, Hannah and Catherine Williamson and Ian Burton; and many other family and friends, whom she loved dearly.
On June 13, 1981, Susan married the love of her life, Brooks Burton and graduated from Hendrix the following year. Susan retired in May from the Department of Human Services after 27 years of service.
Susan was a loving wife, mother, friend and co-worker. However, her most prized title was “Honey”, as her grandchildren called her. Susan loved her grandchildren with a love that will never be replicated. She spoiled them rotten and her favorite thing was taking them to her “happiest place on earth” - the beach.
Susan was tough, classy and independent and her love for those around her radiated from her even on her bad days. Everyone knew they could count on her for a listening ear, good advice and a piece of gum. Susan was so proud of her family and given the chance, she would show picture after picture of her grandkids.
One of her other great loves was service of others who were walking the same road as she was. She dedicated time and resources to the charity, Our Promise. She will be honored with the Our Promise Karen Rutledge Aware on October 12th for her outstanding support of the Our Promise mission.
She left us much too early and will be missed every day; and on Saturday, October 5, we will celebrate the wonderful life she lived and the love she shared. Please join us at the Hot Springs Convention Center, Room 208 from 6:00-9:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Susan’s name to: Our Promise Cancer Resources, 133 Harmony Park Circle, Hot Springs, AR 71913.
