Willa Dene Smith, age 85, of Hot Springs, died Monday, October 2, 2017.
She was born on May 13, 1932 in Paron, the daughter of Jim Brooks and Anna Taylor Brooks. On May 27, 1950, she married Cleo Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Jerry Brooks and Louis Brooks.
She was a member of Rock Creek Family Church. Willa Dene Smith was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who knew how to translate the blessings of God into love and affection. Her faithfulness to her Lord, her family and her church was reliable and evident in the way she lived her life. She is a shining example of what happens when we live God's way. A life filled with a Spirit of gifts and blessings that appear much the same way as fruit appears on a tree. Fruit of affection for others, cheerfulness about life and a peace in the midst of a storm. She had a willingness to hold onto God in the toughest of times and a conviction that His holiness permeated to the depth of her soul. Her sense of compassion and heart was both loyal and involved. We will miss your contagious laugh and smile. Your personality came out whether you were quilting, or burning the biscuits. We recognize that you were a gift of God given to us to help shape our lives. We honor God by praising Him for this blessing. We honor you by making sure we pass your love on to our families and the world. Because that is the way you would have wanted it. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Cleo Smith of Hot Springs; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Don and Kaye Smith of Hot Springs, Darrell Smith and Clay and Kay Smith, all of Royal; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bruce Furgerson of Hot Springs; seven grandchildren, Justy and Stephanie Smith, Jamie and Whitney Smith, Shelby Smith, Lance and Robyn Smith, Kyle and Jessica Smith, Terra and Sam Goodin and Jason and Sara Furgerson, all of Hot Springs; twelve great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Mary Brooks of Paron; one sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Gary Kindy of Fort Smith; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of wonderful friends.
