Zelma Simmons

Zelma Simmons, age 84, of Kirby, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012. She was born on December 31, 1927, at Kirby, the daughter of Leamon Turner and Era Etta Johnson Turner. On December 3, 1943, she was married to Clifton Lincoln Simmons who preceded her in death on April 23, 1984. She was a member of the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, was retired from Shelby Manufacturing and volunteered at the Glenwood Senior Citizens Center. She is survived by eight children, Jacky Simmons of Hope, Betty Rie Graves of Salem (Fulton County), Linda Ann Scholten of Rockwall, Texas, Terry Simmons of Caney Valley, Retha Vaughn of Kirby, Sheila Mack of Mount Ida, Mickey Emmett Simmons of Mena and Kimberly Renea Evans of Kirby; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Walter Turner of Kirby; one sister, Erma Nielson of Redwater, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 28, 2012, in the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Bobby Golden officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Mount Joy Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Hardy Reynolds, Dewayne Mack, Dewight Mack, Ronnie Whisenhunt, Danny Turner and Phillip Glasgow. Memorials may be made in memory of Zelma Simmons to the Courtyard Gardens Alzheimer's Care Unit, 2701 Twin Rivers Drive, Arkadelphia, Arkansas, 71923. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
