Albert Wesley Arnold

Albert Wesley Arnold, age 92, a resident of Oak Park Village in Glenwood, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2011. He was born on April 9, 1919, in Wilburton, Oklahoma to James Albert Arnold and Fannie G. Rowton Arnold. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vernell Howard Arnold; his parents; and one brother, Wallace Arnold. Albert joined the Civilian Conservation Corps, Company No. 3777 Camp Lake Catherine State Park, Hot Springs, Arkansas in 1937. He was a World War II Veteran, a Master Sergeant with the 570th Air Engineering Squadron on Tinian Island. Upon Honorable Discharge he had received The World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, The American Theater Ribbon, The AP Theater Ribbon and a Bronze Service Star. He was a very proud American and proud of his service. Albert was a song writer. He played the fiddle some, but loved playing his Martin guitar. He was blessed with a strong memory and sound mind. He was always a story teller and loved sitting outside Oak Park smoking his pipe and sharing stories with everyone. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Lonnie Gray of Norman; his step-son, Steve Brown of Hot Springs; and a host of nephews, nieces and friends. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 23, 2011, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Rev. James E. Black officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will be in the Black Springs Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Steve Brown, Ralph Graves, Howard Graves, Stan Graves, Craig Mitchell, Chris Hoover, Chris Erickson and Steven Johnson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy and Wanda Jones, Mabellee Rowland, the staff of Oak Park Village, both present and past, his friends at Oak Park, Marvin Black, Sue Johnson, Doug and Linda Dumont, Edwin Aston and Forrest Aston.
