Ann E. Black

April 3, 1913 — April 11, 2015

Ann E. Black, age 102, of Mount Ida, passed away on Saturday, April 11, 2015. She was born on April 3, 1913, in Mount Ida, the daughter of Dempsey B. Maddox and Nora M. Elder Maddox. On November 19, 1932, she was married to Perry G. Black who preceded her in death on October 4, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Joyce A. Atwood; two brothers, Fayte Maddox and Hovell Maddox; and two sisters, Ava Hicks and Faye McCory. She lived her entire life in Montgomery County, and was a faithful, lifelong member of the Barr Memorial Presbyterian Church in Norman. An avid quilter, she was a member of the Montgomery County Extension Homemakers, having made many beautiful quilts over the span of her lifetime, which many will continue to cherish for years to come. She enjoyed gardening and everyone always looked forward to her canning and sharing the vegetables from her garden. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, who she dearly loved and was loved in return by all. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Lowell and Janie V. Black of Little Rock; two grandsons and their spouses, Perry and Phyllis Black of North Little Rock and Mitch and Debbie Black of Little Rock; three great-grandsons, Lance Black, Alex Black and William "Will" Black; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of wonderful friends. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, April 16, 2015, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Hartley Jones, CRP and Dr. Gary Jones officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will be in the Gaston Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Perry Black, Alex Black, Lance, Black, Will Black, Mitch Black and Leonard Shields. Honorary pallbearers will be the nurses and staff of the Montgomery County Nursing Home, with a special thank you from the family for all their kind and loving care.
