Annie Mae Johnson

November 13, 1946 — April 4, 2020

Annie Mae Johnson, age 73, of Hot Springs, went to be with her Heavenly Maker on Saturday, April 4, 2020. She was born at home on November 13, 1946, in Hollis. Annie attended Hot Springs High School and Lakeside High School, where she graduated in 1965. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Felton; her aunt and uncle who raised her, Winston Kassaw and Jane Kassaw Phillips; and two sisters, Rita Ramos and Carla Strickland. Annie worked in retail many years at K-Mart and Wal-Mart, where she made many life-long friends. She was a Christian and enjoyed attending church with her daughters at Unity Full Gospel Church and Rock Creek Family Church. Annie made friends easily everywhere she went and she was known for her quick smile and fun-loving spirit. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was affectionately known as Nana. Annie was the happiest when she was giving to others and she will be missed by all that knew her. She is survived by her two cherished daughters, Shari and Phillip Howell of Hot Springs and Kay and Clay Smith of Royal; four grandchildren, Lance and Robyn Smith of Hot Springs, Brooke Howell Callicoat of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Kyle and Jessica Smith of Royal and Cody Howell of Hot Springs and; six great-grandchildren, Kyler Callicoat, Liam Callicoat and Elijah Callicoat, all of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Avery Smith and Cole Smith, both of Hot Springs and Hannah Smith of Royal; six siblings, Ed Kassaw and Brenda Kassaw, both of Hot Springs, Ruth Laurel of Michigan, Betty Wilken and Cathy Davis, both of Little Rock and Timothy Bettis of Benton; and a host of wonderful family and friends. A celebration of Annies life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
