Belva Lee "Tommie" Ashley Alford

Belva Lee "Tommie" Ashley Alford, age 89, of Kirby, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2016. She was born on January 13, 1926, in Daisy, the daughter of Charlie Andrew Ashley and Addie Mae Sanders Ashley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Loyd Alford; her parents; her grandson, Russell Betts; two brothers, Clifford Ashley and Dewey Ashley; and one sister, Erma Gean Ashley Helvey. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, fishing with family and friends and working in her flower gardens. She was a wonderful and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, whose greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and those that she loved and cherished as her own. She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Alford White Huff of Frost, Texas and Herma Jean Alford Betts of Kirby; five grandchildren and their spouses, Jennifer Huff, Shannon and Cisco Henson, Jason and Jamie Betts, Terry Betts and Melissa Reed; twelve great-grandchildren, Candice Betts, Dominick Betts, Jasmine Betts, Caleb Betts, Haylee Huff, Maranda McGee, Dalton Reed, Dillon Reed, Destiny Reed, Tabitha Betts, Skyler Betts and Gabriel Betts; her special nieces and nephews that she thought of as her own children, Tim and LeaAnna Simmons and their children, Robert and Cammie Simmons and their daughter, Sonya, Bobby and Bonnie Ashley and their children, Billy and Carolyn Ashley and their children, Jackie and Roger Franks and their children, Betty Ashley, and Wanda and J. T. Redden and their children; and her adopted families, Jimmy and Faye Neal, Hershal and Patsy Simmons, Joy Khangi and Gladys Suttles. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 10, 2016, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Bro. J. B. Evans and Bro. Gerald Matthew Palmer officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will be in the Palestine Cemetery. Pallbearers will be George Neal, Sheridan Neal, Daniel Neal, Jimmy Neal, Matt Cook and Cisco Henson.
