David Chambers, Jr.

David Chambers, Jr., age 84, of Glenwood, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018. He was born on October 28, 1933, near the dipping vat on the Little Missouri River, the present day site of Kirby Landing, the son of Sam Chambers and Dora Stelter Chambers. He was preceded in death by one son, Kenny Chambers; his parents; and all of his siblings, which included his twin brother. He was baptized into the Church of Christ by his childhood friend, Harloe White. Junior was a lifelong musician (fiddler) and won many awards, which included the Arkansas State Fiddling Championship for five years and in 1978, was ranked 2nd in the World Champion Fiddling Contest in Crockett, Texas. He was a staff manager for Reliable Insurance for many years; a job that relocated his family to many places in south Arkansas and North Louisiana. His lifelong desire was to return home to Kirby, which he did in 1972 to start his land and timber business. He is survived by the mother of his children, Virgie Chambers of Glenwood; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Debbie Chambers of Glenwood and Dickey and Kelly Chambers of Hot Springs; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dolores and Gene Cowart of Langley and Vickey and Jim Gray of Pontotoc, Mississippi; ten grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, June 12, 2018, in the Bear Creek Cemetery with interment as close to his worldly home as possible, where his parents and most of his siblings are buried. His beloved Mack boys, Dewayne Mack and Dewight Mack and his grandson-in-law, Nick Flowers will officiate. Visitation will be Monday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Arkansas Hospice, 5th Floor CHI St. Vincent. Memorials may be made to the Bear Creek Cemetery Association, P.O.
