Dell Spainhour

June 27, 1942 — July 30, 2021

Dell Spainhour, age 79, of Hot Springs, passed away Friday, July 30, 2021.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Minerva Black; her sisters, Helen Batie, her twin sister, Nell Harris and half-sister, Paula Yboro; two brothers, Little Marshall and James Liebel.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Wade Spainhour; her daughter and son-in-law, Tannda Spainhour and Rod Marks; her son, Michael Spainhour; and her granddaughter, Shelby Spainhour.

Dell (“Mom”) was born in Dallas, Texas June 27, 1942, the daughter of William Marshall and Minerva Liebel. She grew up in Dallas with her sisters and brothers. Her parents separated early in her childhood. Her mother, Minerva, worked three jobs to support their family. For this reason, I think her family had a very close bond to the very end. After her twin sister, Nell, passed away early this year from Covid-19, Mom was the last surviving member of the family and she never got over the loss of her twin sister, Nell.

Mom and Dad married in Dallas, on September 3, 1959, and moved to Hot Springs. They had two children, Michael Wade in December 1960 and Tannda Lynn in May 1964. Dad was in the Army then and was Honorably discharged in 1964. Dad built the house on Rock Creek Road where we lived until we moved to the Lake House in 1980. Like many mom’s of the 60’s and 70’s, she was a housewife that did it all. She was the glue that held everything together. She was a wife; a mom; a second Mom to all of mine and Tannda’s friends; a chaperone; a Girl Scout Leader; a quilt group leader; she won awards for her cakes and pies; she loved her pets and all animals and would stop to take in a stray when one came her way; she could plan events and throw a party like no other; and she could handicap horses better than the Gold Sheet. But most of all, she loved her family more than anything else in the world and even though she was a tiny lady, she was not afraid to fight you to the death to protect her family and values. She truly was a special woman, wife and mother that we all cherished in life and now celebrate in death because we know where she is and that we will reunite with her again in heaven. She will never be forgotten and will always be with us, forever guiding us and watching over us.

Death is merely a shadow cast across the walkway to heaven. Not lost to memory! Not lost to Love! But gone to the Lord’s house above! God has you in his keeping now!
