Dewey Ray Small

Dewey Ray Small, age 83, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2020.

He was born on October 14, 1937, in Amity, the son of Lon Franklin Small and Dora Runyan Small. On December 22, 1958, he was married to the love of his life, Linda V. Childress Small. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Clara Bardwell and Aileen Long; and four brothers, Edward Faye Small, Verdell Small, Thereon Small and Doyle Small.

He was a graduate of Hot Springs High School and Methodist in his faith. He worked in food distribution, was manager of Safeway Stores and delivered for Holsum Bread and Wonder Bread, where he retired with the honorary “Golden 80’s” award in 1992. Dewey’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Linda V. Small of Jacksonville, Florida; his son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Theresa Small of Jacksonville, Florida; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marshia and Timothy Garben of Olar, South Carolina and Evonna Sue and Joe Fontenot of Lafayette, Louisiana; four grandchildren; one step-grandson; four great-grandchildren; his sister and brother-in-law, Estaline and Emual Hunt; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, December 3, 2020, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood with Bro. John Edward Small officiating.

Social distancing directives will be in place with no more than 191 persons at any one time in the funeral home, avoidance of physical contact and all attendees 10 years of age or older must be wearing a face covering at all times when inside the funeral home.

Interment will be in the Sweet Home Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Oscar Webb, Timothy Garben, Stephen Small and Joe Fontenot.
