Dickie M. Johnson

Dickie M. Johnson, age 71, of Glenwood, passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2018. He was born on December 11, 1946 in Hot Springs, the son of Paul J. Johnson and Francis Geraldine Turner Johnson. He was preceded in death by his father; his sister, Betsy Shirley; and his great-grandson, Jasper Allen Hardy. After serving as a submariner in the United States Navy, Dickie enlisted in the Arkansas Air National Guard where he retired after twenty-three years of military service. He was also retired from Arkansas Power and Light and from the United States Army Corp of Engineers. Never one to just sit around, he was very active in the community. Dickie had just recently resigned, due to health reasons, from the Glenwood City Council and remained a member of the Centerpoint School Board. For several years, he spent time coaching Pee Wee football and baseball. He was also a member of the Glenwood First Baptist Church, Glenwood Masonic Lodge #662 and Glenwood Order of the Eastern Star #396. He is survived by his wife, Louise Johnson of Glenwood; his mother, Geraldine "Jerri" Johnson of Glenwood; six children and their spouses, Tim and Melissa Hardy of Magnolia, Tony and Michelle Bright of Lodi, Kaye and Brian Hill of Salem, Jennifer and Tony Hill of Glenwood, Rickey and Christine Johnson of Sherwood and Missy and Brandon Jones of Daisy; eighteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, May 27, 2018, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood, with Bro. Erby Burgess officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery will full military honors conducted by the United States Air Force Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Owen Bright, Michael Bright, Daniel Forsythe, Brian Cook, Larry Lynchard, Blake Swain and Colton Carver. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
