Donald W. Stokley, age 82, of Sims, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2020.

He was born on November 15, 1937, in Mineola, Texas, the son of Irvin Samuel Stokley and Vertis Lee Anders Stokley. On May 14, 1960, he was married to the love of his life, Barbara Jane Dye Stokley, who preceded him in death on March 23, 2018. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Irvin Stokley and Gerald Stokley; and one sister, Jeanetta Klang.

Donald was a Vietnam War Veteran, proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force, having retired as a Master Sergeant after twenty-four years of dedicated service. During his years in the military, he served in the Pacific Air Forces, U.S. Air Forces Europe, Strategic Air Command and Tactical Air Command, and went on to receive multiple U.S. Air Force medals of commendation and medals of achievement. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force Senior Non-Commissioned Officers Association and the VFW.

He was also a member of the Bethel Assembly of God Church in Mount Ida, where he served for many years as Deacon and Treasurer. Donald was a master electrician and worked for several years as the Mount Ida Water Superintendent-Class A Water Operator until his retirement. He was also a volunteer firefighter with the Sims Volunteer Fire Department.

Donald achieved many great honors during his lifetime, but to him his greatest accomplishment was his family. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, who deeply loved and cherished his family and has left a wonderful legacy for each to carry on in their hearts. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Allison Stokley of Deatsville, Alabama; his daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Mike Dobbs of Pencil Bluff; four grandchildren, Wesley Porter, Bailey Stokley, Braxton Stokley and Samuel Stokley; one great-grandchild, Slaydon Stokley; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members; and a host of wonderful friends.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home and Crematory, Glenwood.
