Doyce Golden

June 27, 1934 — March 5, 2021

Doyce Golden, age 86, of Glenwood, passed away on Friday, March 5, 2021.

He was born on June 27, 1934, in Glenwood, the second of eleven children born to George Golden and Bertie Carter Golden. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Melbourne Golden, Beatrice Cameron, Donal Golden, James (Merkle) Golden and Bruce Golden. His surviving siblings include Evelyn Jessup, Ella Joy Sisson, David (Calvin) Golden, Jane Garner and Jean Hemund.

He married the love of his life, Joyce Marie Golden of Petaluma, California on December 27, 1959, and they celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary this past year. They have three children, Duane Golden of Vernal, Utah, Lorie Brown of Hot Springs and Doug Golden of Benton; five granddaughters; and ten great-grandchildren.

Doyce and Joyce led an adventurous life due to being a career military family living in and exploring numerous countries around the world. He served more than twenty-one years in the military, starting out doing maintenance/supply before switching to electronics. He spent one tour in Vietnam and eventually retired as a Master Sergeant/E-8 with numerous awards including the Meritorious Service Medal.

Doyce never met a stranger and was known to do anything and everything he could for others. He and Joyce were long-time, Jesus praising members of the Church of Christ in Glenwood where he served as a Deacon, do-it-all maintenance man and treasurer for many years.

He loved family activities such as camping, waterskiing, bowling and was a participant and technical inspector for many years for the local stock car, dirt-racing circuit.

He and his lovely wife were community servants. They were selected as Glenwood’s "Volunteers of the Year," served on the Pike County Fair Board and was a former Grand Marshall of the Pike County Fair Parade. After retiring from the military, Doyce worked several different jobs but was best known as Mr. Goodwrench and as the chief engineer of KWXI and KVRE radio stations. The Goldens loved every minute living, working and serving in their local community.

The family thanks all for your thoughts and prayers. A special thank you goes out to the management and staff at the Montgomery County Assisted Living and Montgomery County Nursing Home; they are wonderful people who truly care.
