Doyle L. Hawthorn

April 23, 1928 — November 29, 2021

Doyle L. Hawthorn, age 93, of Hot Springs, passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021.

He was born on April 23, 1928, in Hot Springs, the son of Guy Elmer Hawthorn and Ella Mae Layne Hawthorn. On December 12, 1953, he was married to Hazel Williams Hawthorn who preceded him in death on February 15, 2021. He was also preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and five sisters.

At age 83, Doyle retired from G. E. Hawthorn Meat Packers but was also a beekeeper for over fifty of those years. He was known as “Bee Man” or “Honey Man” and would share his knowledge to area public schools on the art and science of beekeeping. If you found your bushes, trees or attics full of bees, “Bee Man” was the one to call. Doyle was an active member of the Lake Hamilton Church of the Nazarene. For the past 45 years, he would lead devotions and Bible readings at area nursing homes on Saturdays. At age 72, he went on his first of what would be four world mission projects. It was also at that age that he enjoyed his first deer season, an experience he would do every year thereafter.

He is survived by four children and their spouses, Sheryl and Leo Wooldridge of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Michael and Terri Hawthorn of Hot Springs, Melony and Jackie Chambers of San Antonio, Texas and Susan Williams of Hot Springs; seventeen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; his sister, Grace (Clifton) Koller of Texarkana, Arkansas; four brothers, Dan (Joyce) Hawthorn of Lowell, J. D. (Charlene) Hawthorn of Bentonville, Grady Hawthorn of Sims and Gilbert (Beverly) Hawthorn of Manning; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 4, 2021, in the First Church of the Nazarene in Hot Springs with Bro. Ken Carney and Bro. Steve Holmgren officiating.

Visitation will be held Saturday, 1:00 PM until service time, at the church.

Interment will be in Crestview Memorial Park.
