May 17, 1957 — January 13, 2021

Elbert “Gene” Douglas, Jr., age 63, of Jacksonville, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2021.

He was born on May 17, 1957, in Jacksonville, the son of Elbert Gene Douglas, Sr. and Barbara “Bobbie” Ann Hamm Douglas. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Earl and Dovie Douglas and Gerald and Daisy Hamm; two brothers-in-law, Gene Miller and John Dent; and two aunts, Delores House and Judy Carmical.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran and worked for several years as a Maintenance Supervisor for Parks and Recreation with the City of Jacksonville. He also enjoyed hunting, playing golf, going to the beach and spending time at one of his favorite places, The Buffalo River. Above all, Gene’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and friends, who he truly loved with all his heart. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Gene is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Kristen Douglas; three grandsons, Jaxon Douglas, Ty Douglas, Brad Bemberg, and another grandson, Karson Gene Douglas, on the way; his three sisters, Debbie Miller, Karol Ann Dent and Pam Christie; his uncle, Sunny Hamm; three aunts, Freeva Johnson, Sissy Colvert and Paulette Benton; his niece, Tracy Dixon; five nephews, Josh Dent, Justin Dent, Erik Blaty, Jacob Christie and Cory McKay; special cousin, Kenny Johnson; his lifelong friend, Pat Drake; special friend, Joyce Douglas and her family; numerous other cousins, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
