Emma Sue Stewart Scoggin

August 29, 1934 — February 5, 2021

Emma Sue Stewart Scoggin, age 86, of Murfreesboro, passed away Friday, February 5, 2021.

She was born on August 29, 1934, in Highland, the daughter of Charlie Lee Stewart and Vivian Jeffers Stewart. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Ralph Stewart, Dallas Stewart, Charles Stewart, Bill Stewart and Nicky Stewart; her sister, Ina Jo Willett; and her nephews, David Willett, David Stewart, Howie Scoggin and Carl Landrum.

Well, this is the story of Emma Sue Scoggin. She was Church of Christ in her faith and attended Murfreesboro High School. She enjoyed camping on Lake Greeson, fishing, hunting, boating and listening to classic country music. She was truly one of a kind and lived life to its fullest. She never met a stranger and loved sharing stories with each and every person she met throughout her rich life. She truly loved and took great pride in being from Murfreesboro, Arkansas; a Rattler and Razorback fan always. She never forgot her upbringing and all the life lessons she obtained from her days of childhood, professional life and recreation. She took pride with regards to her independence and doing things her way. She was a consummate blue-dog Democrat and always eager to voice her strong views on a wide array of issues. In the time of her professional career, she became a ground-breaker and opened the door for women beginning in the 1960's. She became the first female supervisor for Texas Instruments in Dallas, Texas. She worked side by side with Jack Kilby and his team who was awarded the 2000 Nobel Peace Prize for inventing the integrated circuit, which was used in control systems for NASA's Apollo space missions and the Department of Defense Minuteman rockets. Little did they know at the time, this development would change our world with regards to the electronic evolution of the information age of our everyday life. Sue took her skill set to Silicon Valley in 1975 and worked for or was recruited by many of the "Traitorous Eight", a nickname for the eight scientists who left famed Shockley Semiconductor Corp. for Fairchild Semiconductor Corporation. This subsequently led to startup companies Intel, Advanced Micro Devices and other pioneering semiconductor manufacturing companies in Silicon Valley. Sue valued the lifelong memories of her large family and the many friends she had in the course of her long life. She was blessed to have kept her keen memory of life until her final days.

She is survived by her sons, Stewart Scoggin and his wife Shelley, of Seabrook, Texas and Steve Scoggin and his wife Debbie, of Fayetteville; her grandsons, Blake Scoggin and his wife Jackie, of Farmington, Drew Scoggin of Russellville and Blake Rogers of Galveston, Texas; her granddaughter, Emma Su Scoggin of Highland Park, Illinois; her great-grandson, Cade Scoggin of Farmington, her great-granddaughter, Olivia Scoggin of Farmington; her sister, Iline Tadlock of Murfreesboro; many nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
