Ethelyn "Effie" Jones

Ethelyn "Effie" Jones, age 92, of Glenwood, died Thursday, December 13, 2012. She was born on October 25, 1920 in East Liverpool, Ohio, the daughter of Frederick Eardley and Ethel Crawford Eardley. On January 5, 1945, she was married to Dr. William J. Jones, who preceded her in death on January 11, 1988. She was also preceded in death by her son, William J. "Billy" Jones, II; three brothers, Dr. Keith Eardley, Scotty Eardley and Billy Eardley; and her sister, Helen Trezie. Working as a registered nurse at Gallinger Municipal Hospital in Washington, D. C., she met a young doctor and U. S. Navy captain who would become her future husband. She and Dr. Jones opened their family clinic in Glenwood in 1946 and founded the Glenwood Nursing Home in 1966. She was a member of the Glenwood Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and received her 50 year membership pin. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Wanda Jones; two daughters, Mary Ann "Sissy" Tidwell and Janice Jones, all of Glenwood; her daughter-in-law, Rosemari Jones of Hot Springs; six grandchildren, Cindy Rowlan, William J. "Billy" Jones, III, Roger Tidwell, Craig Jones, Holly Tulley and Cara Lee; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Kenny Eardley of East Liverpool, Ohio and Dr. Jack Eardley of Lexington, Kentucky; her brother-in-law, Dr. Audie Lynch of Conway; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, December 16, 2012, in the Glenwood Cemetery with Bro. Bobby Golden officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 or online at www.stjude.org.
