Eugene "Gene" E. Johnson

Eugene “Gene” E. Johnson, age 87, of Glenwood, peacefully left this life to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, June 14, 2021.

He was born on October 6, 1933, in Graysonia, the son of Jewel Ray Johnson and Minnie Lee Wilder Johnson. On April 25, 1953, he was married to the love of his life, Lydia Sue Green. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son-in-law, William "Billy" Watson; two brothers, Marvin Johnson and John R. Johnson; and one sister, Neoma Haggard.

Gene was a United States Army veteran and a member of the First Baptist Church of Glenwood. In his earlier working career, he was a sales manager for Meadows Chevrolet and for many years was a barber in Mount Ida, Crossett and Glenwood, until his retirement on May 27, 1995. He enjoyed hunting, woodcrafts and especially loved gardening with his wife, Sue. He was a wonderful and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who truly loved his family with all his heart.

Gene was dearly loved by his family, and they always enjoyed visiting him and listening to stories he would tell of his many adventures in life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but he has left many cherished memories that will be carried on in their hearts forever.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Sue Johnson of Glenwood; his three children, Jeannie Watson of Hot Springs, Eddie Johnson of Little Rock and Steve Johnson and his wife, Sonia, of Hot Springs; five grandchildren and their spouses, Robyn and Chris Hoover, Hollie Erickson, Jeremy Johnson, Jared and Audrey Johnson and Kailan Johnson, nine great-grandchildren, Ethan Hoover and his wife, Abigail, Valleigh Erickson, Emmerson Hoover, Ensley Hoover, Hadleigh Erickson, Eli Erickson, Aden Winkley, Rileigh Johnson and Lliam Johnson; one sister, Ann Martindale; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, June 18, 2021, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood with Bro. Erby Burgess officiating.

Visitation will be held Friday, 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM, prior to the services.

Interment will be in the Glenwood Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Army Honors Team.

Pallbearers will be Rodney Woodard, Paul Smith, Elliot Blackmon, Casey Wright, Brett Wright and Ray Mcghee.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Matthew Hulsey and his nurses and staff, Dr. Franklin Gray, and the nurses and staff of UAMS in Little Rock.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Gene to St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
