Evelyn Sue Spurling

Evelyn Sue Spurling, age 71, of Oden, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2019. She was born on May 27, 1948 in Tulare, California, the daughter of Floyd Johnson and Bernice Snelson Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Sherry Johnson; and her nephew, Richie Johnson. On June 3, 1994, she was married to Gene Spurling. She and her husband owned and operated Riverview Cabins in Oden. She enjoyed working in her yard and garden, crafts, painting, cooking, and especially her weekly Bible study group. She is survived by her husband, Gene Spurling of Oden; eight children and their spouses, David and Vickie Rice of Oden, Shelley and Rayburn Gaston of Oden, Debra and Kenny Hornaday of Camden, Bryan and Andi Spurling of Magnolia, Shannon and Jay Dyer of Nashville, Jennie Spurling of Nashville, Regina and Kenny Garmon of Mena and Travis Spurling of Story; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her brother, Richard Johnson of Glenwood. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, July 25, 2019, in the Oden Cemetery with Bro. Charles Ballentine and Bro. Freddie Davis officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Bryan Spurling, Jay Dyer, Willy Brewer, Kenny Mason, Nathan Harper and Richard Morrison. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
