Fred Allen Cogburn, Sr.

February 3, 1944 — April 1, 2013

Fred Allen Cogburn, Sr., age 69, of Newhope, formerly of El Dorado, died Monday, April 1, 2013. He was born on February 3, 1944, in Hobnobie, Oklahoma, the son of Wesley Lee Cogburn and Minnie Bell Long Cogburn. On January 3, 1963, he was married to Linda Mae Major. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, James Cogburn; and his sister, Linda Cogburn. He was a United States Marine veteran, having served in Vietnam, and worked in maintenance at Great Lakes Chemical, where he retired after thirty years. He was a member and deacon of the Midway Community Church. He was survived by his wife, Linda Cogburn of Newhope; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Fred Cogburn, Jr. of El Dorado and Robert Anthony and Deanea Cogburn of Hampton; an adopted son, Caleb Cogburn of El Dorado; one daughter, Charity Cogburn of El Dorado; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; his stepmother, Vera Cogburn of Strong; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Louia and Vee Cogburn of Huttig and Charles Wesley "Pete" and Tracy Cogburn of Strong; one half-brother and his spouse, Jerry and Shirley Stevenson of Lubbock, Texas; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mae and Buck Webb and Rae Mullens, all of Urbana, Shelia Dontge of El Dorado and Lee and Keith Black of Monett, Missouri; two step-sisters and their spouses, Cathey and Roger Langston of Litroe, Louisiana and Glenda and Jimmy Farris of Strong; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. The family will hold a memorial service at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 6, 2013, in the Midway Community Church, near Daisy, with Bro. Boots Donaldson officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
