Freda F. Carpenter

Freda F. Carpenter, age 78, of Glenwood, passed away Sunday, January 17, 2021.

She was born on July 10, 1942, in Amity, the daughter of Coy Ellis Howell and Emma Elizabeth Kirkpatrick Howell. On March 5, 1960, she married H. G. “Junior” Carpenter who preceded her in death on August 7, 2019. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Coy Howell, Jr.; her sister, Bonnie Ashley; and her brother-in-law, Kenneth Thornton.

Freda was a 1960 graduate of Amity High School and a lifelong member of Salem Clark Missionary Baptist Church where she attended with her husband, Junior, who served as a deacon. She was a great cook and was known for her homemade pies and coconut cakes. She also enjoyed quilting and was a lover of antiques. Freda was a caregiver to many, including her entire family, whom she adored.

She is survived by three children and their spouses, Mike and Ann Carpenter of Amity, Grady and Tammy Carpenter of Glenwood and Amber and Ron Courteaux of Arkadelphia; five grandchildren, Brandon Carpenter and his wife, Ella, Nicole Carpenter, Coy Carpenter, Zack Courteaux and Aurora Courteaux; six great-grandchildren, and one on the way; her sister, Floy Mae Thornton of Glenwood; her brother-in-law, Bobby Ashley of Hartselle, Alabama; her dear friend, Betty Ashley of Glenwood; and her nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 21, 2021, in the Bethsaida Cemetery with Bro. Keith Howell officiating.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Carpenter, Coy Carpenter, Noah Carpenter, Zack Courteaux, Joseph Ashley and Devin Owens.

Honorary pallbearers will be George Howell, Wanda Keener and the nurses and staff of Glenwood Health and Rehab.

Memorials may be made to Bethsaida Cemetery Association, c/o Jerry Fagan, 158 Hobb Adams Road, Amity, Arkansas 71921, or Chambers Bank.

Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.
