Hite E. Bright

July 23, 1931 — January 8, 2014

Hite E. Bright, age 82, of Hot Springs, died Wednesday, January 8, 2014. He was born July 23, 1931 in Gainesville, Texas, the son of Hubert Marion Bright and Effie Estelle Fuller Bright. On July 27, 1954, he was married to Elfriede Schmid, who preceded him in death on August 23, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, George Murphy Bright, Dillon Bright, Hubert Bright, Jr., Felix Bright, and Eugene Marshall Bright; and two sisters, Sue Owen and Era West. Hite was a retired Command Sergeant Major in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War and Vietnam Conflict where he was awarded the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star with one oak leaf cluster, the Purple Heart, and two Combat Infantry Badges. He was of the Church of Christ faith and was a 32 degree Mason. He is survived by two sisters, Bennie Kate Stark of Santa Rosa, California and Marie Golden of Dinuba, California; nieces and nephews, Roger and Mikyung Bright and Benny Bright, all of Hot Springs, Margie and Steve Sexton of Malvern, Pam and Bob Pilkerton of Dinuba, California, Susan Rowe of Reno, Nevada, and Sande Crawford of Santa Rosa, California; numerous other nieces and nephews; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of wonderful friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Sunday, January 12, 2014 in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood with Harold Vaughn officiating. Interment will be in the Hopper Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood with full military honors provided by the U.S. Army. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Saturday evening at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Keith Horn, Kelly Horn, Charles Coffman, P.D. Coffman, Logan Sexton, and Jon Lee. Memorials may be made to Hopper Cemetery, c/o Ava Delle Cogburn, 326 Oak Grove Road, Caddo Gap, Arkansas 71935. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
