Hubert G. Mills

June 9, 1917 — April 21, 2020

Hubert G. Mills, age 102, of Hot Springs, passed on to his heavenly home on April 21, 2020. He was born on June 9, 1917, in Amity, the son of William and Lucinda Mills. On June 11, 1953 he married Patsy Mills. Hubert was known for his dedication to his family, his community, his work, and God. He loved to spend his time hunting, fishing, and traveling with his family. Over the past century, Hubert has had a front seat to history being made. Growing up in Hot Springs, he worked for both the Hot Springs railroad and the famous Oaklawn racetrack. He lived through the famous gambling and gangster era of Hot Springs and interacted with many notorious gangsters by delivering for Craighead Cleaners. He laid stone in the office quarters of the Army-Navy General Hospital in 1933, and oversaw and built the sanctuary of Lakeshore Heights Baptist Church, which he was a member of, in the early 1970s. As the founder and owner of Hubert Mills Construction, he spent most of his days working on construction sites building houses and developing condos in the Hot Springs area. His legacy is more than brick and mortar, it is the lives and families that he touched through creating homes and buildings that will stand for many years to come. He was a member of Hot Springs Baptist Church for 8 years. He loved spending his free time listening to gospel music and Billy Graham. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patsy R. Mills; four brothers; two sisters; one grandson; and one great-grandson. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, J.B. and Joyce Mills; two daughters and sons-in-laws, Debbie Mills Matlock and Todd Matlock, and Roxana and Bobby Brown, all of Hot Springs; five grandchildren, Sean and Sara Mills, of Athens, Georgia, Brian and Jennifer Mills, of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Beth and Jeff Sheets, Robyn and Scott Miller, and Julie and Brian Clark, all of Hot Springs; and ten great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Hot Springs Baptist Church in honor of his life. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, April 23, 2020, in the Crestview Memorial Park with Sean Mills and Brian Mills officiating.
