J. Pennington, age 95, of Amity, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2016. He was born on May 2, 1921 in Mansfield, the son of James Verdell Pennington and Dyce Ann Wright Pennington. He was a United States Naval aviator and served during World War II. He retired from the California Department of Unemployment and returned to Arkansas. He worked for several years with Bean Lumber Company. He was a member of the Amity First Baptist Church and active in Gideon's International. He is survived by his wife, Reba Pennington of Amity; his son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Janice Pennington of Ridgecrest, California; three daughters and sons-in-law, Holly and Rick Meade of Wise, Virginia, Penny and Ronnie O'Neal of Hot Springs and Karen and Roger Rogers of Amity; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Services will be 10:00 AM, Friday, November 18, 2016, in the Amity First Baptist Church with Bro. John McAnally officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be held in Friendship Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Aaron Hollingshead, Jake Hoover, Ki Hartsfield, Wes Johns, Craig Hall and Tim Bean. Honorary pallbearers will be Rob Rogers, Rusty Rogers and Rhett Rogers. The family requests that memorials be made to Gideon's International, PO Box 495, Glenwood, Arkansas 71943. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
