Jimmy T. Whitaker, age 66, of Amity, formerly of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, June 19, 2021.

He was born on November 3, 1954, in Columbus, Georgia, the son of Fred Whitaker and Ruby Watts Whitaker. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Brown; his father and stepmother, Fred and Mary Whitaker; his sister, Dorothy O’Hearn; and his brothers-in-law, Ronnie Goff and Mike Reznicek.

He attended Amity United Methodist Church, where he really cared deeply for his church family. He was always very sociable and never met a stranger that he didn’t enjoy talking with. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Jimmy truly loved his family and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his children, Jennifer Whitaker and her spouse, Brian Gleaves of Amity, Christina Whitaker of Columbus, Georgia and Christopher Peavy of Jacksonville, Florida; seven grandchildren, Alexis, Daniel, Corry, Killian, BriAnna, Bryce and CheyAnn; one great-grandson, Cason; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred and Cathy Whitaker of Macon, Georgia and Johnny and Kathy Whitaker of Panama City, Florida; two sisters, Rachel Sue Goff of Columbus, Georgia and Mary Jane Reznicek of Corsicana, Texas; the mother of his daughters, Donna Dunlap of Columbus, Georgia; his lifelong friends, Joe Denson and Sammy Starling, both of Columbus, Georgia; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Memorial services will be announced by the family at a later date.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home and Crematory, Glenwood.
