JoAnn Kirksey

JoAnn Kirksey, age 84, of Point Cedar, passed away Sunday, November 21, 2021.

She was born on May 31, 1937, in Point Cedar, the daughter of C. W. Knight and Hattie Burton Knight. On September 1, 1957, she was married to G. T. Kirksey, who preceded her in death on April 13, 2021. She was also preceded in death by her son, Gerald Rodney Kirksey; her son-in-law, Merlin Harris; and her parents.

JoAnn taught first and second grades, and later kindergarten, at Amity Public Schools for many years. After retirement, she returned to Henderson State University where she earned her degree as a master gardener. She thoroughly enjoyed landscaping her yard and was a founding member and contributor of Garvin Gardens, where she volunteered many hours until her health declined. She also volunteered at the local food pantry, the Thrift Store in Point Cedar, and taught GED classes in Amity. An excellent cook, she made desserts that were unforgettably delicious. JoAnn was a Christian in her faith.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Kirksey Harris of Little Rock; her granddaughter, Hailey Kirksey of Amity; two sisters, Norma Blanton of Hot Springs and Charline Knight of Point Cedar; her beloved dog, Blitzy; and her close friends from the food pantry.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, November 24, 2021, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood with Bro. Tim Jordan officiating.

Visitation will be 9:30 AM until service time at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Free Hill Cemetery.
