Joyce M. Freeman, age 81, of Norman, died Thursday, April 21, 2011. She was born on July 18, 1929, at Muskogee, Oklahoma, the daughter of James Walter McCarter and Ida Elizabeth Garrison McCarter. On April 29, 1945, she was married to D. B. Freeman who preceded her in death on November 22, 1987. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Betty McCarter. She was a resident of Moultrie, Georgia from 1947 through 1987, where she was employed as a nurse for many years at the Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic. In 1987 she moved to Norman, and became a member of the First Baptist Church of Norman, where she taught Sunday school and was very active in the Mount Ida Senior Adult Center. She enjoyed reading, cooking, traveling and going to the opera. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Janie Freeman of Gainesville, Texas and Bill and Barbara Freeman of Rogers; one daughter and son-in-law, Irene and Wayne Ethridge of Norman; ten grandchildren and their spouses, Rusty and Tracee Freeman, Loralee and Dale Becraft, Beth and Mark Buckner, Amanda Freeman, Lynn and Jeffery Stovall, Stephanie Freeman, Alex Tabor, Carter Freeman, Jennifer and Johnny Hunter and Pam Murphy; twenty-one great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom and Dorothy McCarter of Muskogee, Oklahoma and Dan and Ruby McCarter of Norman; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 23, 2011, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Bro. Mark Buckner officiating. Visitation will be Friday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will be in the Mount Gilead Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be David McCarter, David E. McCarter, Mike McCarter, Walt McCarter, Andy Jackson and Rusty Freeman.
